Welcome to the Personal Information Protection Commission’s website. Japan has changed its personal data protection framework and I would like to put a focus on two key elements of the changes.
First, use of MY NUMBER has started. MY NUMBER influences on every citizen’s life and widely changes the governmental system along with the development of IT society. MY NUMBER also helps the formation of more comfortable society. For the smooth introduction of MY NUMBER, I fulfill my role and responsibility as the Commissioner of the Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC).
Second, the PPC has been established, changed from the Specific Personal Information Protection Commission (SPIPC). In addition to the SPIPC’s duties, the PPC promotes public relations and develops international cooperation with regard to the protection of personal information. The PPC will also assume to supervise and monitor proper handling of personal information.
On the basis of my experiences in private companies and viewpoints as a consumer, I would like to make efforts so that PPC’s efforts and accomplishments contribute to protection and proper handling of personal information for better society.
