Cooperative Dialogue Held With The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Justice

The Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC) secretarial staff on 28 Sep, 2016, visited the European Commission (EC) to hold a cooperative dialogue with their counterparts of the Directorate-General for Justice.

The PPC staff provided an explanation about progress made on preparatory work toward full implementation of the amended Act on the Protection of Personal Information and a decision made by the PPC on Jul 29, 2016, entitled “New Initiatives for Ensuring Smooth Cross-Border Personal Data Flows”. The Directorate-General for Justice personnel expounded the EU General Data Protection Regulations and other related issues, and shared various views etc. with the PPC staff.

Both sides stressed the importance of promoting the cross-border transfer of personal data between Japan and the European Union while promoting personal data protection and expressed their willingness to continue their cooperative dialogue towards this end.
