The EU-Japan ICT dialogue etc.

Secretariat staff of the Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC) on Nov 30 and Dec 1, 2016, participated in the 22nd EU-Japan ICT dialogue1 and the 4th EU-Japan ICT strategy workshop2, and on the first day had an opportunity to make a courtesy visit to Ms. Tiina Astola, Secretary-General of European Commission’s Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers, accompanying a high-ranking official of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), Japan.

During the above-mentioned meetings, the PPC personnel provided an explanation of the amendment to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, overview of the PPC’s roles and responsibilities, and its efforts that have been and will be made, etc, and recognition has been confirmed to deepen understanding of the respective Japanese and EU systems and continue sharing information and exchanging views.

    1. It has been held on a regular basis between MIC and European Commission (Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology) to discuss a whole range of ICT related policies.
    2. It has been attended by business operators as well as the aforementioned ICT dialogue’s participants so that both the public and private sectors to openly and voluntarily exchange their views on important subjects related to digital economy.
